The Royal Barbados Police Force is urging businesses and small entrepreneurs to be extremely vigilant when receiving cash payment for goods and services, especially during the night and at times of high customer volumes.
The warning follows recent concerns by some members of the business community in relation to receiving counterfeit cash transactions.
The Force is also recommending that business owners and individuals invest in counterfeit detectors, which can be useful in identifying counterfeit notes.
It adds that individuals handling money should also be trained in how to detect fake notes.
Any cases involving counterfeit cash should be reported to the Financial Crimes Unit at 4307195, or the nearest police station.
Police are also reminding members of the public that persons can be prosecuted for knowingly distributing counterfeit currency.
