The Barbados Christian Council has a new Chairman. He is Divisional Commander of the Salvation Army Major Darrell Wilkinson.
He was elected as the new head of the council at the Annual General Meeting this week.
Major Wilkinson replaces Canon Noel Burke, who had been Chairman for three years and indicated to his colleagues that he was not seeking re-election.
Canon Burke in the Chairman’s Report made reference to some of the issues in society, especially crime and violence and saw a link between those and problems in families as well as the drug culture.
Speaking subsequently in an interview with Starcom Network News he said there’s a key role for the church and wider society to play in trying to find solutions. He stressed that the police can’t do it all.
