The Barbados government implementing a ban on single use plastics by April but grants an extension to some businesses.

The Barbados Government is on track to ban single use plastics from April 1st.

Minister of Maritime Affairs and the Blue Economy Kirk Humphrey says the ban is in an effort to protect the environment but notes that not all plastics will be banned by April.

Local manufactures of plastic bags will be given an extension to January 2020 and a similar extension has been given to poultry producers who use Styrofoam.

He  added that the penalties for using single use plastics after April will be severe.
